The Tree With a Face & Gooey Pumpkin Butter Cake

As I was driving in from my trip to Burris Farm Market, I just stopped for a minute to appreciate the beauty of the big live oak trees on our property out by the road.  They are huge, probably a hundred years old.  We lost a couple during Hurricane Ivan, but a few were spared.

Look closely at this one...do you see the face?

It was put here by the previous owners years ago.  It's funny how most people just drive right by and never see it, but once in awhile, someone mentions the tree with the face.

The tree with the face also has "hair", or Spanish Moss.  I've always loved Spanish Moss in trees.  I remember once (a long time ago), our family was visiting the beach and we were admiring the moss and wondering if it would grow on our trees "up north" near Birmingham. We brought some home, stuck it in a tree, and it promptly died.  So, imagine my excitement when we moved to this property that had trees with Spanish Moss!

Okay, that's enough about the pretty trees, so I'm going to head on up the road to the house.

Once I got home, I decided to make something sweet to make the house smell good and fall-ish.  I keep thinking about Paula Deen's Gooey Butter Cake recipe.  I think there's one that incorporates pumpkin with some cinnamon and nutmeg...Yes, here it is.  Link here.

And, about an hour later, here it is- and the house smells GREAT!

With whipped cream...

and, without.

Very gooey and good.

And, this little pumpkin from the farm market is so perfect and cute!  I love the twisted stem.

If you've never tried Paula's Gooey Butter Cake recipes, go check them out.  Just a warning though, they are loaded up with butter, so it's not something you would want to make every week!  Oh, and it's one of those recipes that you can tweak on to fit the season or your taste...and it's SO EASY to make.

Thanks for dropping by...I love sharing with you and I welcome comments.

    1. Hi Beth! Oh my goodness, don't let Paula hear you say that! Just kidding, but thanks so much. The secret to this recipe is to make sure not to bake it too long. That way the center remains gooey and good. Let me hear from you if you make them...I want to know if they were as good as they looked in the pics!
Thanks so much for dropping by!
