Words of late artist Frank Howell...I totally relate!

"There are few days off and no retirement from this entanglement of knowledge, passion and vision that will be molded and converted into creative expression. There are no guarantees of acceptance, understanding or reward, but...the noise inside the mind never ceases. I will paint today, tonight and for as many tomorrows as I am given..." Sea Lady

I am having such fun painting my little ladies of the sea.  This tiny little painting can be placed on a side table to bring a little bit of the sea to your home.  I've used acrylic paint with purple glitter for her tail, and ocean blue glitter "bubbles".  Sprinkled into the sandy bottom is actual sand, large grains so that it can be seen.  All of my acrylic paintings have been varnished so that they can be cleaned with a damp cloth.

Watch my blog for more sea people...sometimes they just swim right up out of the Gulf of Mexico and pose for me here in Bay Minette....

Summer Art Fun with Mr. Ricky

Yesterday was the kick-off for our summer art fun here in Bay Minette.  Debbie and I, through our gallery, are working with the North Baldwin Coalition for Excellence in Education with some great art camp plans for the summer.   The first one was with artist, Ricky Trione.  Ricky is an inspiration to all who know him, and once you meet him, you'll feel as though you've known him forever.  He was blinded by two separate accidents, and now he paints using memory from his sighted days, puff paint, and acrylic paints.  He outlines his sea creatures with the puff paint, then paints within the raised areas with his index finger.  He has his paint situated on his palette in a certain way so that he knows where each color is located.  He is a very popular teacher with the children, and we all just love Ricky, his wife Bonnie and their little helper, John.  Pictured here are the children who participated.

Crazy Monkey Paintings

I have wanted to paint monkeys forever!  My friend Debbie just returned from a cruise and she was telling me that on one of their excursions, a monkey had bitten her husband...and there you have it.  That brought the monkey thing back into my mind...Oh, you are probably wondering...her husband is okay, although she is still watching very closely for foaming at the mouth!  I decided to make a Mom and toddler monkey for the first painting, and that's the one I'm showing today.  The mom is trying to coax the child out onto the vines for it's "first swing"...

Alabama Writers Symposium Art Show

Last weekend was the Alabama Writers Symposium in Monroeville.  Best Friends Gallery was invited to show artwork by some of our artists in the gallery at Alabama Southern Community College for the duration of the event.  It was a very exciting weekend for all who attended!  We were able to chat with some of our favorite local writers to include Mark Childress, Winston Groom, William Cobb and more, and returned to Bay Minette with some new friends...and lots of signed books!

We have put the gallery back together and are open again for business here in Bay Minette.  Something new for Bay Minette that we are working on with the North Baldwin Coalition of Excellence in Education (or NBCEE)...An Art Camp for children!!! that will take place in June.  Debbie and I will teach techniques in collage, polymer clay, mixed media, and acrylic painting...and some of our BFG artists will teach as well.  It promises to be a fun-filled week for all who attend!  Contact us at the gallery if you have children that live in the area and are interested.  251-937-8090....

Pretty peacock

"Royal"
14 x 28 Mixed on Stretched Canvas
$450 + actual s/h cost

This was one of the most enjoyable paintings I believe I've ever done.  The feathers were so much fun!  I will describe this one as "acrylic with glitter" or "mixed media".  I used a very fine glitter in places on the eyes of the feathers. If you look really hard on the detail photo below, you can see the sparkle.   It comes to you custom framed in a 2-inch wood moulding that is leafed in silver and bronze colored metals.   The actual canvas measures 14 x 28.  Outside frame measurements are 18 x 32.   See details of painting and frame below.

New series of cat paintings

"Sparkles"
4 x 6 Acrylic on canvas
$75 + $10 s/h (USPS Priority)
This cute little cat was painted from a photograph of a cat that had been rescued.  It is painted on a back stapled canvas and, therefore, requires no frame.  It comes with black easel for easy immediate tabletop display.  The colors are more vivid than the photograph shows...I had trouble with the light reflecting on the gloss varnish.

Purchase directly from the artist.  Please email me with questions or to make a purchase.  Thanks!
