A Fun Way to Recycle an Old Hardback Book

I talked about my trip to the library book sale yesterday (link here), where I purchased many different kinds of books for a variety of reasons.  I picked out a few to use as bookmarks and I'm going to show you how they turned out today.

I cut the spines away from the rest of the books and picked out coordinating heavy upholstery fabric for the back of the bookmarks.  These were all black, so I used the same fabric for them all.  With the sewing machine, I did a zig-zag stitch all the way around, trimmed stray threads, put in an eyelet at the top and strung a pretty ribbon through each one.

Rumors has a golden yellow silk ribbon strung
through the eyelet at the top.

This close up shot shows the silk ribbon and fabric back.

The Fiercest Heart got a black silky
ribbon with a tiny gold string.

How's that for a fun and easy way to recycle an old book?  And they make great little gifts for the avid readers in your life.

Hope you were inspired to make some of your own.

    1. Thank you, Lorraine! But, you know this wasn't my idea originally...I just figured out to sew the heavy fabric on the back, but that probably wasn't an original idea either! I do love the upcycling aspect of this project though.
Thank you so much for reading my blog and always leaving comments. I really enjoyed our visit today!

    1. I wish I could claim the original idea, but I'm just putting my own spin on something I've seen done before. They are useful, and that's what I like about it. Thank you for coming by my blog!
